TENNIS – ANNA Bazderova from Russia and Arnav Paparkar from India were both crowned champions yesterday on the concluding day of the J60 Manama Bahrain ITF Juniors tournament, which was played at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.
Second-seeded Anna secured the girls’ singles title after defeating Mila van der Lecq from the Netherlands 6-3, 6-1 in their final, while top-seeded Arnav won the boys’ singles crown after beating fifth seed Rafael Asadullin from Russia 6-4, 6-1.
Following both matches, finalists from both competitions were awarded their respective trophies by BTF secretary general Fuad Al Rowaie.
Anna and Arnav were joined as title winners from the competition alongside the Japanese pair of Lisa Anzai and Riko Shozui, who were crowned girls’ doubles champions, and Doruk Calikoglu from Türkiye and Omar Kandil from Egypt, who won the boys’ doubles title.
The competition was part of this year’s International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar, and it was the latest ITF event to be hosted by the kingdom in the past several weeks.
Bahrain’s staging of major tennis competitions continues this week with the Arab Elite Tennis Tournament from Tuesday to December 23 at the Public Security Officers Club, and the Arab U16 Tennis Championship will be held from December 18 to 24 at the BTF.
