CAMEL RACING – Bahrain will host the World Camelids Sports (WCS) general assembly this Friday and Saturday at The Art Rotana Resort in Amwaj Islands.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa expressed his pride in the kingdom’s hosting of the International Camel Federation event for the first time, with participation from more than 70 countries.
This reflects Bahrain’s growing status as a key hub for regional and international sporting events across various disciplines.
Shaikh Khalid added that hosting the event reflects the directives and vision of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, aimed at enhancing Bahrain’s presence on the global sporting map and strengthening co-operation with international sports federations and organisations.
Shaikh Khalid also noted that camel racing, with its deep historical and cultural significance in the region, is witnessing tangible development both technically and organisationally.
He described the general assembly as an important milestone to support the sport’s progression, develop its regulations and competitions in a manner that serves the aspirations of all member countries, and expressed his pleasure at the growing popularity of the sport, which was included for the first time in the third edition of the Asian Youth Games hosted by Bahrain in October.
Shaikh Khalid expressed hope that this event will open wider avenues for co-operation between the WCS and the kingdom to advance and develop the sport regionally and internationally.
