Al Hilal Premier Hospital has achieved a significant milestone by earning the prestigious Centre of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery accreditation from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), USA.
It the only hospital in Bahrain to hold this internationally recognised distinction.
The accreditation was formally received by Al Hilal Healthcare Group chief executive Dr Sharath Chandran, alongside General Surgery (bariatric Surgery) consultant and Al Hilal Healthcare Group Medical Services group head Dr Amer Alderazi during an official ceremony, attended by SRC chief medical officer Dr Neil Hutcher and SRC International Business Development manager Dr Daniela Casagrande.
The SRC accreditation was awarded following a comprehensive evaluation of Al Hilal Premier Hospital’s facilities, infrastructure, clinical pathways, surgical outcomes and full scope of metabolic and bariatric services, ensuring strict compliance with internationally benchmarked standards for patient safety, quality, and clinical excellence.
Globally recognised as a leading authority in surgical quality assurance and patient safety, SRC grants its ‘Centre of Excellence’ designation only to institutions that demonstrate superior clinical outcomes, strict adherence to evidence-based international guidelines and a fully integrated multidisciplinary model of care.
“At Al Hilal Healthcare Group, we take pride in knowing that nine of our facilities now hold National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) Diamond Accreditation, with Joint Commission International recognition for our Muharraq Hospital since 2016 and, most recently, SRC accreditation for Al Hilal Premier Hospital,” Dr Chandran said.
“Each of these milestones is more than a certificate on the wall – they are a reflection of the trust our patients place in us and the standards we hold ourselves to every day. Above all, our focus remains simple yet profound – keeping patients safe while delivering care that makes a difference.”
Dr Alderazi said the accreditation represented far more than an international recognition.
“It is a milestone in our journey to redefine excellence in healthcare delivery in Bahrain,” he added.
“I am immensely proud of what our multidisciplinary teams at Al Hilal Premier Hospital have achieved through shared vision, professionalism, and an uncompromising commitment to quality and patient safety.
“This accomplishment reflects our belief that world-class healthcare should be accessible locally, delivered by Bahraini talent, and benchmarked against the highest global standards.”
Dr Alderazi was also awarded the prestigious ‘SRC Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery’ title – the first and only surgeon in Bahrain to receive this highly selective international recognition.
The Master Surgeon designation is granted to an elite group of surgeons worldwide ‘who demonstrate exceptional technical expertise, a high volume of successful procedures with documented outcomes and a sustained commitment to continuous medical education and quality improvement’.
The combined accreditation of both the institution and its lead surgeon highlights Al Hilal Premier Hospital’s fulfillment of SRC’s stringent requirements, including extensive surgical experience with outstanding safety benchmarks and continuous alignment with the latest international standards and best practices.
