An Australian woman has been arrested after allegedly biting a police officer on the leg in Canberra, shortly after signing a formal agreement to “keep the King’s peace.”
Police were initially called to a residence following reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the couple and had both parties sign an agreement to “keep the King’s peace”—a restorative measure used by Australian police to de-escalate tense situations without immediate arrest.
However, several hours later, police were called back to the same address. On this occasion, the woman reportedly became combative and allegedly bit an officer on the leg before being taken into custody.
She has since been released on bail after being charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and resisting arrest.
