BAHRAIN has planted 2.4 million trees, achieving 67 per cent of its target of planting 3.6m by 2035, it has been declared.
The statistics were revealed during a briefing presented to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the latest developments of Bahrain’s National Afforestation Plan.
The Bahrain Mangroves Initiative has surpassed its goal, reaching 138pc of its target with 2.2m seedlings planted, exceeding the initial target of 1.6m by 2035, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak said during the briefing at Riffa Palace yesterday.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister welcomed the achievements and affirmed that the kingdom continues to implement programmes that support development efforts while preserving the environment and protecting natural resources.
He highlighted that these efforts are guided by detailed plans and performance indicators.
The achievements reinforce Bahrain’s position as a leading model in adopting sustainable environmental initiatives, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad, he pointed out.
HRH Prince Salman also emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at achieving environmental security, through the implementation of national initiatives and environmental programmes that align with the highest standards.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister stressed the importance of the ongoing progress in the National Afforestation Plan with Team Bahrain’s dedication, whose collective efforts continue to achieve success that support growth and prosperity across various sectors.
He underscored that environmental preservation is a shared societal responsibility, which is continuously being strengthened across society to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
This contributes to supporting efforts to expand afforestation across all governorates and to achieving Bahrain’s commitment to reaching zero carbon neutrality by 2060, he stressed.
HRH Prince Salman emphasised the importance of partnership, integration and co-operation among various community institutions.
He noted that such collaboration unifies efforts, enhances the effectiveness of national environmental initiatives.
