The Las Vegas Police Department (LVPD) has commissioned the Tesla Cybertruck as a police patrol vehicle after 'mysteriously' ending up with a fleet of 10 free Cybertrucks.
According to The Guardian, the vehicles were donated to the police department by a mysterious donor who later turned out to be billionaire Ben Horowitz, a good friend of Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk.
Other police departments around the US have experimented with Tesla vehicles for policing, but most departments faced backlash for the decision. Many police chiefs deemed the vehicles unfit for modern policing.
The highly controversial car was classified as "the worst industry flop in decades" by Forbes after suffering a myriad of recalls with many problems, including build quality and usability issues for a car priced around USD 80,000 (BD 30,000). Initially expected to sell up to 250,000 Cybertrucks, Tesla failed to sell more than 25,000.
