A 50-year-old man in Jordan has been sentenced to one year in prison after posting an advertisement on Facebook offering to sell his kidney.
The man, a retiree, reportedly resorted to the illegal sale to address financial hardships. "I'm a retired 50-year-old man in good health. I don't have a job. I'm offering my kidney for sale for 25,000 dinars to settle an outstanding debt," the post read.
Under Jordanian law, the trafficking of human organs is a strictly prohibited offence. Following his post, the man was tracked down by authorities, arrested, and subsequently sentenced.
