FOOTBALL – JOEL Beya scored a first-half goal as Al Khaldiya edged past Muharraq 1-0 in a 10th-round match of the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Football Premier League at the Shaikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium yesterday.
Beya netted the lone goal of the match in the 15th minute.
The result raised Khaldiya’s tally to 24 points, maintaining first place in the standings, while Muharraq remained second with 20 points.
Meanwhile, A’ali held off Budaiya 1-0 in another match yesterday, played at the Bahrain National Stadium. Abeeb Olamide Yusuf scored in additional time to help A’ali claim three points.
Earlier, Sitra held Al Shabab to a 1-1 draw in the first match of the day. Hussain Al Qassab scored from the penalty spot to put Shabab ahead in the 16th minute to lead 1-0 at half-time. Sitra bounced back with a goal by Mohammed Al Akram in the 70th minute to draw level.
The 10th round of the tournament kicked off on Thursday with Al Hidd’s match against Al Ahli. Oussama Belatreche converted a penalty in additional time to help Hidd claim a 3-3 draw against Ahli.
The ramaining games of the round are scheduled to be held today. Al Najma take on Bahrain Club at the Shaikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium at 4.25pm and, in the final match of the round, Riffa clash with Malkiya at 7pm.
