This weekend, my husband and I decided to brave the fairways of the Royal Golf Club for the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, and I can honestly say the DP World Tour has cracked the code for the perfect family day out.
While the world’s golfing elite were focused on their backswings, our little girl had her sights firmly set on the Championship Village, and we were more than happy to follow her lead.
We started our afternoon in the Kids’ Zone. Usually, taking a toddler to an event involves a lot of shushing and frantic snack-deployment, but here, she was in her element. Within 10 minutes, she had been transformed into a very sparkly (and very proud) butterfly at the face painting station.
The soft play area was a lifesaver, and we even found ourselves drawn into the Mini Golf area; watching a toddler try to putt is comedy gold.
It was great seeing the roaming performers in action and watching the giant, colourful mascots interact with attendees. For the real thrill-seekers, the 100-metre zip line soaring above the village looked incredible, though we were content to stay grounded.
We capped off the afternoon in one of the shaded chill-out zones, catching the leaders on the big screens while our daughter finally succumbed to a nap.
It truly is a rare find to have an event this grand that feels so welcoming to families. If you haven’t made it down yet, you’ll need to hurry; today is the very last day for members of the public to attend and enjoy this fantastic atmosphere before the trophy is presented and the tour moves on … and it’s free entry!
