Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) chief executive officer Sara Ahmed Buhiji has been named one of Fast Company Middle East’s Most Creative People in Business for 2026.
The prestigious recognition celebrates individuals across the region ‘who are redefining industries through creativity, innovation, and leadership’.
The award was presented at a ceremony in Dubai that brought together prominent leaders, innovators, and creatives from across the Middle East.
Ms Buhiji was recognised under the category ‘Challenging the Status Quo’, which honours leaders who introduce innovative approaches to create meaningful change in their sectors.
Ms Buhiji took on the role of CEO of BTEA in 2024, contributing to strategic national efforts to further develop Bahrain’s tourism landscape, strengthen international collaboration, and position the Kingdom as a dynamic destination for cultural, leisure, and business travel.
Established in 2015, BTEA oversees the development of Bahrain’s tourism sector and plays a key role in organising major events and initiatives that support sustainable economic growth.

Since taking office, Ms Buhiji has implemented strategic initiatives that introduce new models for destination development and expand opportunities across BTEA’s tourism mandate.
As chairperson of Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB), she strengthened role in enhancing Bahrain’s ability to compete as a leading regional and international hub for major events.
In addition to her leadership at the BTEA, Ms Buhiji also serves on the boards of Gulf Air, Beyon and Al Dana Amphitheatre, and the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, reflecting her broader contributions to cross-sector development and national growth.
