VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN’S senior men’s volleyball national team and Muharraq Club star Naser Anan has been banned for two seasons by the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) for his involvement in a physical altercation in a 2025-26 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League game.
The suspension – to be served in the 2025-26 and 2026-27 campaigns – was announced by the BVA in a statement.
Their decision followed a meeting of the BVA board of directors during which they discussed the unfortunate events that took place during Muharraq’s league match against Dar Kulaib at the end of last month. In the contest, Anan went at it with Bahraini referee Jaafar Al Muallim, who has also been suspended for two seasons.
Meanwhile, Muharraq has also been fined BD500 for the incident, while Al Muallim has been stripped of his membership in the BVA’s referees committee.
Immediately after the altercation, the BVA expressed its deep regret and condemnation of the incident, and added that it affirms its complete rejection of such unsportsmanlike conduct, which contradicts the noble principles of sports and its message of fair competition and mutual respect among all parties.
Anan has since issued a video apology for his role in the altercation.
