His Majesty King Hamad deputised his Personal Representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to inaugurate Isa Al Kabeer Mosque in Muharraq City.
Shaikh Abdulla unveiled the plaque marking the opening of the mosque and conveyed the greetings of the King. He expressed His Majesty’s pride in the reconstruction of Isa Al Kabeer Mosque, highlighting its historical significance and its connection to the early founders.
He noted that the rebuilding reflects the King’s commitment to maintaining places of worship and their role in promoting moral values, strengthening national unity and supporting charitable work in Bahrain.
Shaikh Abdulla added that the mosque serves as a centre of learning with links to educational and cultural institutions inside and outside Bahrain, and emphasised the importance of mosques in religious, social and educational life.
He also commended the support provided by the King and by the Government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting the construction of places of worship.
Sunni Endowments Council chairman Dr Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Hajri, commended the continued support given to mosques and places of worship.
He noted that mosque construction accompanies housing projects across Bahrain to facilitate the performance of religious rites.
He added that the mosque was restored in the traditional Bahraini architectural style, linking the past with the present. It includes the kingdom’s largest Quran memorisation centre and continues its historic role in education and community service, promoting moderation and tolerance.
Shaikh Abdulla was then briefed by officials on the mosque’s design and construction, which incorporates high architectural standards and modern facilities to ensure comfort and safety for worshippers.
