Calif lifted the HH Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup, sponsored by Bapco Energies, last night in the headlining race at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The races were witnessed by Deputy King His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and REHC High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The evening’s programme marked the 20th meeting of the national horseracing season at REHC.
Calif triumphed across 2,200 metres to take the lion’s share of the $135,000 total prize for owners Victorious Forever and trainer Fawzi Nass, with jockey Stephane Ladjadj in the saddle.
The triumphant seven-year-old gelding finished the star-studded run for imported horses with a three-quarters’ gap from runner-up Bedouin Prince, racing for Godolphin, Charlie Appleby, and William Buick.
Panning For Gold came third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Mohamed Hasan, and Neil Callan, while Cracksking took fourth for Al Adiyat Racing, Daniel and Claire Kubler, and Tom Marquand.
The result was the second major win last night for Victorious Forever and Nass. Earlier in the card, Signalman gave them their first triumph in taking the Bahrain Vision Cup, sponsored by Beyon.
Signalman won the 1,800m event, part of the 2025-26 Bahrain Turf Series and offering $80,000 in prize money, with Hussain Makki in the saddle. The five-year-old gelding finished only a neck ahead of Westridge, competing for Adiyat, the Kublers, and Ebrahim Nader. Lord Montague was third for the Adiyat-Kublers-Marquand triumvirate, while Rollajam came fourth for the Victorious Forever-Nass-Ladjadj connection.
Meanwhile, Dan Tucket clinched the Al Sakhir Cup, sponsored by Texel Air – last night’s other Bahrain Turf Series race, carrying another $80,000 in winnings.
The four-year-old gelding won for Mohamediya and trainer Ali Abdulmajeed, while ridden by Callan. A length-and-a-quarter behind was Partisan Hero, racing for owners D Lowe and S Hoyland, trainer David Loughnane, and Asghar, while Kaasib was third for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and jockey Jack Callan. Chief Mankato came fourth after 1,000m for JH Widdows, Jack Channon, and Marquand.
