Thirty-two civilians, including children, were injured in a hostile Iranian drone attack in the Sitra area early yesterday.
Four of the victims sustained serious injuries.
The strike also caused extensive damage to homes, shops, and vehicles, forcing several families to evacuate their properties.
Health officials confirmed that all those injured are Bahraini citizens and remain under medical care, with specialised teams monitoring their condition.
Among the most serious cases is a 17-year-old girl who sustained severe injuries to her head and eye. Two children, aged seven and eight, also suffered significant trauma to their lower limbs.
The youngest victim is a two‑month‑old infant.
The attack triggered an immediate response from the authorities, with officials visiting the area to assess the devastation and co-ordinate support for affected families.
Acting on directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Capital Governor Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa visited Sitra yesterday to check on the safety of residents and inspect the damage caused by the attack.
“Innocent citizens and families in their houses were attacked and we are here, as the Capital Governorate, to support those families,” said Shaikh Khalid.
He stressed that the government was mobilising multiple ministries and agencies to assist residents.
“We are working closely with the Ministries of Social Development and Health to ensure that the needs of the people of Sitra are fully and promptly met,” he added.
Shaikh Khalid also praised the spirit of unity displayed across Bahrain following the incident.
“I am glad to see volunteers and all the people of Bahrain working together as one team, one family,” he said.
He noted that officials had been communicating directly with the affected households, with some families relocating temporarily to relatives’ homes.
“We have been in contact with all the families. Those who would like another location will be provided with the necessary support. Most families have moved to relatives’ homes where they feel safer, and if accommodation is required we have provided everything needed.”
Initial assessments indicate that more than 100 homes and businesses may have been affected, with structural damage leaving some properties unsafe for residents.
Area MP Jalila Al Sayed said the tragedy had shaken the entire nation, with teams from multiple ministries working on the ground to assess the situation.
“We regret what has happened to the Sitra area and we don’t want this to happen to any other area in Bahrain,” she said.
“Everyone had hoped there would be no loss of life, and we sincerely wish for the swift recovery of those who were injured.”
Ms Al Sayed said she was personally involved in surveying the damage in co-ordination with government agencies and security authorities.
“We are surveying the area alongside the Interior Ministry, the Health Ministry and the Bahrain Defence Force to assess the damage in liaison with affected families,” she explained.
“Even the Works Ministry is here to evaluate the damage related to more than 100 homes and businesses.
“Work is underway to provide temporary accommodation in co-ordination with the Social Development Ministry, as many homes are now in a dangerous state.
The government is working closely with us on plans to help families.”
Among those affected was Sitra resident Hussain Al Sitri, whose home was severely damaged in the attack.
“I am the owner of one of the affected homes here and I live with 10 other members of my family,” he said.
“We can’t live here anymore because the place cannot hold us all safely.”
He described how several neighbouring homes were also left uninhabitable.
Mr Al Sitri called for swift action to relocate affected families until repairs and reconstruction works are completed.
“We have requested His Majesty King Hamad and the government to fast-track the work to relocate us until our homes are repaired and fixed or rebuilt, depending on the assessment,” he said.
Capital Trustees Board services and public utilities committee chairman Mohammed Al Abbas, who is also a resident of the area, expressed deep regret over the attack and wished all those injured a speedy recovery.
Mr Al Abbas praised the swift response of the concerned authorities, ambulance teams and security services, as well as the efforts made by medical staff in hospitals, particularly at Sitra Health Centre, in providing the necessary care to the injured.
He also called for strengthening the spirit of social solidarity and community co-operation to support the affected families, affirming his confidence in the Bahraini community’s ability to overcome such circumstances with unity and a strong sense of responsibility.
