In a major seven-day operation to prevent a potential disaster, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists from the Kuwait National Guard successfully extracted and destroyed a drone warhead that had fallen into a fuel tank without detonating.
The official spokesperson, Jad’an Fadel Jad’an, stated that personnel from the Explosives Disposal Unit of the Engineering Battalion responded to the report and conducted a thorough technical inspection of the site. The inspection revealed that the warhead had remained intact inside the tank, creating a significant technical challenge due to the presence of flammable petroleum products and hazardous chemical vapours.
According to the statement, the delicate operation to safely secure the unexploded device took seven consecutive days. During this period, the fuel tank was completely emptied, and rigorous safety protocols were implemented to protect the disposal team.
The National Guard noted that the successful operation reflects the high level of readiness and expertise within the Engineering Battalion. It also highlighted the seamless coordination and cooperation between Kuwait’s military and security authorities to safeguard lives, property, and national security.
