A 16-year-old Bahraini girl has tragically died after sustaining severe injuries in a fire that broke out at her family home in Jannusan during the early hours of yesterday.
Duaa Al Mahafda suffered extensive smoke inhalation and was rushed to Salmaniya Medical Complex by the National Ambulance Service.
Despite intensive medical efforts, she passed away last night at around 8pm, according to area MP Dr Mahdi Al Shuwaikh.
Her 10-year-old brother was also taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Three other family members who were inside the house when the fire started – the father, mother, and eldest son – sustained minor injuries.
Dr Al Shuwaikh told the GDN that emergency services responded swiftly, transporting all affected family members for urgent treatment.
“The family is in deep shock and distress, and we pray for hopeful news regarding the young boy,” he added.
According to preliminary reports, the blaze was triggered by a short circuit.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on X.
