Tankers have been deployed across the kingdom to address rainwater accumulation as stormy conditions are expected to continue until tomorrow.
Unsettled weather, marked by scattered rainfall and thunder, battered the kingdom yesterday, with similar conditions forecast for today and tomorrow.
In the Northern Governorate, tankers were sent to areas in and around Saar, Jeblat Hebshi, Aali, Al Markh, Al Qurayyah, Jid Al Haj, Al Maqsha, Buri, Karranah and Salmabad.
Meanwhile, the Capital Governorate deployed tankers to Jid Ali, Hoora, Salmaniya, Al Suwayfiyah, Bilad Al Qadeem, Sanad, Karbabad and Ras Rumman.
The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate said that temperatures today will peak at 26C in the afternoon, before cooling down in the evening, dropping to 18C, alongside southeasterly winds of up to 40 knots.
Similar conditions are expected tomorrow, with temperatures ranging from 19C to 26C, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms and occasional northwesterly gusts reaching up to 30 knots.
On Saturday, a brief reprieve is anticipated, bringing cloudy skies and temperatures between 18C and 26C, along with a much gentler northwesterly breeze at five to 15 knots.
The General Directorate of Traffic yesterday called upon people to avoid driving recklessly in the rain, to stay focused, stay in the correct lane and stick to the speed limits. They also urged people to keep a safe distance between vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has released safety guidelines to follow during inclement weather conditions. They are:
1. Do not drive through heavily flooded roads as the depth of the water may be difficult to determine and may contain dangerous debris.
2. Be aware of the entry and exit routes in your area and alternative routes, and ensure your home is prepared for heavy rain by moving furniture, valuables and important documents to a high and safe place.
3. If you are asked to evacuate, do so immediately. Go to high places if you expect heavy rain.
4. Avoid touching or dealing with electrical wires and equipment during flooding without the proper tools and protection. A short circuit may occur due to water inside streetlamps or exposed wires.
5. Use protective clothing such as goggles, work gloves, hard hats and waterproof shoes when cleaning after the rain.
6. Use an electric generator only outside, away from windows. Be aware of the risk of electrocution and avoid contact with wet electrical equipment or power poles if you are standing in water.
In case of emergencies requiring an ambulance, police or firemen, people should contact the Emergency Call Centre at 999.
To report excessive rainfall on main roads, people should call the Works Ministry at 17545544.
In local areas, water accumulation should be reported to the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry at 80008188.
Finally, to report power outage and electrical issues, citizens and residents should call 17515555.
