The US has welcomed the start of Bahrain’s United Nations Security Council presidency.
US Ambassador Stephanie Hallett, in a statement, said that Bahrain has already shown tremendous leadership on the Security Council in driving adoption of UNSC resolution 2817, with a record number of co-sponsors, and condemning Iran’s aggression against GCC members and Jordan.
“The United States looks forward to working with Bahrain to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its continuing threats to international peace and security, including efforts to obstruct freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, Ms Hallett added.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: “I’m glad to see the effort Bahrain is leading in the UN to get an international coalition that says we will not accept a world where either the Iranians or the Houthis get to control international waterways and impede the free flow of goods from nation-states.”
