HANDBALL – AL Shabab eked out a narrow 36-32 victory over Al Ahli last night in gameweek 20 of the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
The contest was played at the Bahrain Handball Federation (BHF) Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex with no fans in attendance.
Shabab held a comfortable 19-13 advantage at the half and staved off a spirited Ahli resurgence over the final 30 minutes to come away with their 16th win of the season.
They held on to second place on the table but tied defending champions Al Najma on 52 points apiece – although Najma hold a superior goal difference and have a game in hand. Ahli remained third on 48 points following their third loss.
All three of the league’s top teams are already assured a place in the Golden Square semi-finals.
In another game yesterday also at the BHF Arena, Tubli outclassed Samaheej 32-23.
The victors were up 15-10 at the interval and did well to extend their advantage en route to the final whistle.
Tubli improved to 33 points with their seventh win in 18 outings while Samaheej went to 24 following their 15th defeat.
The 20th round of league action concludes tonight with one fixture on schedule at the same venue. It is between Al Ettihad and Al Ettifaq, and it is scheduled for a 7pm throw-off.
