Bahrain’s upper chamber reaffirmed the kingdom’s commitment to peace, tolerance and dialogue, marking the International Day of Conscience with a call to elevate ‘the voice of human conscience’ in confronting global challenges.
Speaking from the session held at the National Assembly Complex in Gudaibiya, Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh said Bahrain had made the values of peace and co-existence a ‘firm national approach’ that resonates through its diplomacy and humanitarian outreach.
The International Day of Conscience, observed annually on April 5, was established by the United Nations following a pioneering initiative by Bahrain.
The day serves as a global call to uphold peaceful coexistence, foster dialogue and promote mutual respect among all peoples.
Mr Al Saleh said the international observance of the day highlights the need for joint action among nations and societies to promote understanding and build communities based on security, stability and mutual respect.
“These are values that Bahrain has consistently embedded in its diplomatic and humanitarian approach at all levels,” he added.
He expressed pride in Bahrain’s international standing in promoting a culture of peace and religious freedom, crediting the wise visions and humanitarian initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad for positioning the kingdom as a global model of peaceful co-existence and respect for religious diversity.
Mr Al Saleh noted that while Bahrain champions tolerance and dialogue, it also firmly rejects actions that violate international law and human conscience.
“Bahrain upholds peace and tolerance, it also condemns the Iranian attacks on the kingdom and sisterly countries, which are inconsistent with the principles of international law and the values of human conscience,” he said.
Mr Al Saleh praised the efforts of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in advancing comprehensive development and reinforcing initiatives that promote stability, tolerance and sustainable growth.
“The achievements realised under this leadership have strengthened Bahrain’s distinguished standing among nations and contributed to sustainable development built on noble human values,” he said.
