YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES – BAHRAIN Olympic Committee executive director of operations Ahmed Abdulghaffar participated in the meeting of the mission directors for the Youth Olympic Games, which will be held from October 31 to November 13 in Dakar, Senegal.
During the gathering, the event’s organising committee reviewed the latest preparations for the multi-sport event.
They also hosted a series of field visits in the cities of Dakar and Diamniadio, including to the Athletes’ Village, which is located on the campus of Amadou Mahtar Mbow University, and the Stade Abdoulaye Wade du Senegal, which will host the opening ceremony.
Representatives from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated in the meeting, including officials from 180 NOCs who were physically at the venue and while the others from the 26 NOCs joined remotely.
This year’s Youth Olympic Games will be its fourth edition. Senegal is the first country on the African continent to be awarded the honour of hosting an Olympic sports event.
The event is expected to feature nearly 3,000 athletes from around the world, who will be competing in 153 events across 25 sports.
Bahrain participated in all three previous editions of the Youth Olympic Games, including in 2010 in Singapore; in 2014 in Nanjing, China; and in 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Bahrain have two medals from the event, both won in Nanjing, with now-international superstar Salwa Eid Naser having taken silver in the girls’ 400 metres and Dalila Gosa claiming bronze in the girls’ 1,500m in athletics.
