Bahrain’s parliamentary division delegation participated in the co-ordination meeting of the Union of Councils of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Türkiye.
MP Hassan Ibrahim emphasised the importance of unifying positions and visions among parliamentary councils in partner countries, and continuing co-operation to highlight the role of parliaments in addressing various challenges, particularly under the current circumstances.
He underlined the need to adopt a clear position condemning the blatant Iranian attacks against Bahrain, GCC countries and Jordan, as well as the targeting of civilian sites and vital facilities.
He briefed the heads and representatives of the councils of OIC member states on the draft emergency item submitted to the IPU General Assembly by Bahrain and the UAE, noting that it was based on UN Security Council Resolution (2817), sponsored by 136 countries, and the UN Human Rights Council Resolution (38), adopted unanimously with the support of 115 countries.
He noted that both the Security Council and Human Rights Council resolutions reflect international solidarity and stance condemning these unjustified Iranian attacks, calling on parliaments to support the proposed emergency item.
During the meeting, heads and representatives of parliaments discussed the topics on the agenda and reviewed mechanisms and ways to support one of the emergency items proposed for inclusion in the IPU General Assembly agenda.
