I read an article on regulating public fundraising in the GDN. Whilst I agree that measures to prevent money-laundering and misuse of funds collected should definitely be in place, I wonder if exemptions could be made for those many kind individuals throughout Bahrain, who are rescuing countless numbers of abandoned and stray animals?
Many are relatively low income people (almost exclusively women) who depend on individual donations for the medical treatment, feeding and boarding of these poor innocent creatures.
Others who wish to help, by organising fundraising events, as I personally have done, in the past – with the much-loved Car Boot Sales, and online music events during Covid – are uncertain of licensing regulations and can sometimes, unintentionally, fall foul of them.
I (and I’m sure many others I know) would be interested to know what the authorities can tell us on this subject.
