CYCLING – BAHRAIN Victorious Development Team rider Kasper Borremans claimed an impressive podium finish in the 59th Fleche Ardennaise elite under-23 men’s road race in Belgium.
The one-day event featured a distance of 174 kilometres, which began and finished in the city of Stavelot.
Borremans secured third place on the race’s final classification after finishing 16 seconds behind winner Jack Ward of Lidl-Trek Future Racing, who completed the distance in four hours 21 minutes and 39 seconds. Niels Driesen of Lotto-Groupe Wanty joined them on the podium as runner-up four seconds behind the victor.
Borremans, from Finland, spearheaded a five-member squad for Bahrain Victorious Development Team in the race.
Italian Giacomo Rosato was their second-best finisher in 20th, while Belgian Leander de Gendt came 33rd. Teammates Ella Andreaus and Santiago Basso, both from Italy, did not finish.
Borremans’ fine podium result followed his top 10 classification in ninth in the inaugural edition of the A Travers Les Hautes Fagnes – another elite under-23 men’s road race held in Belgium.
