FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN Football Association (BFA) board member Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa Al Khalifa and senior men’s football national team head coach Dragan Talajic will be representing the kingdom tonight in the official draw ceremony for the AFC Asian Cup 2027.
The event, scheduled for a 9pm start Bahrain time, was originally set to take place on April 11 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but was postponed due to the situation in the region.
The kingdom’s squad are set to be in pot three for the draw along with Thailand, China, Palestine, Vietnam, and Tajikistan. There are three other pots, also featuring six nations apiece.
Twenty-three of the 24 participating senior men’s national teams are already confirmed for next year’s continental spectacle.
This evening’s draw will see Asia’s elite divided into six groups of four, mapping out the thrilling battles in the preliminary round ahead of the eagerly anticipated tournament, which will be held in Saudi for the first time from January 7 to February 5 next year.
The final spot will be determined on June 4 between Lebanon and Yemen.
Bahrain will be playing in the AFC Asian Cup for the eighth time, including for the seventh straight edition.
