Sixteen laws approved in a single sitting capped an intense legislative day as the Shura Council closed its fourth ordinary session of the sixth legislative term with messages of unity, reform and praise for the national media.
Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh used his closing address to thank His Majesty King Hamad for his unwavering support that enabled the council to fulfil its constitutional and legislative duties, while also expressing appreciation for the Royal Order extending the sixth legislative term of both chambers.
“The wise Royal step reflects far-sighted vision and high confidence in the legislative authority,” he said. “It contributes to the stability of parliamentary work and supports the continued legislative and legal progress that meets citizens’ aspirations and keeps pace with comprehensive development.”
He also strongly condemned what he called ‘blatant Iranian attacks’ that targeted Bahrain’s security and stability, praising the efforts of the Bahrain Defence Force, National Guard and Interior Ministry, and highlighting the unity and loyalty of the Bahraini people.
Mr Al Saleh paid tribute to the role of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in strengthening co-operation between the executive and legislative branches, saying this had translated into tangible legislative and developmental achievements.
Reflecting on the session’s work, he said the fourth session witnessed intensive efforts inside the chamber and committees to strengthen the legislative system and respond to current needs.
“We are proud that these achievements coincide with naming this year the ‘Year of Isa Al Kabeer’, honouring the builder of the modern state and the leader who laid the foundations of legal and civil institutions in Bahrain,” he said.
Mr Al Saleh also highlighted the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy through active participation in regional and international forums, saying it reflected Bahrain’s balanced policies and strengthened its voice abroad.
Following the session, he honoured local media representatives marking Bahraini Press Day and World Press Freedom Day, praising the Press as ‘a key partner of the legislative authority’ that helps inform public opinion about parliamentary work.
Shura and Parliament Affairs Minister Ghanim Al Buainain addressed members, echoing the appreciation for the leadership and pledging continued executive-legislative partnership in the extended term.
Mr Al Buainain also referred to regional challenges in light of Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and other countries, stressing the importance of national unity and the complementary role of parliamentary diplomacy alongside official diplomacy in conveying Bahrain’s firm positions internationally.
