"Excuse me, everybody. Hey, hey, hey. I'm sorry, guys. But it's impossible to speak about culture, to have people like that super inspired, coming here, making a speech with such a noise. So this is a total lack of respect. So, I suggest if you want to have bilateral or speak about somebody else, I mean something else, you have bilateral rooms or you go outside. If you want to stay here, we listen to the people, and we're playing the same game. Okay, thank you."
Macron interrupted the “Africa Forward: Creation in Motion” discussion after conversations in the room grew louder, saying it was “impossible” for speakers to be heard.
“There is a total lack of respect,” Macron told attendees, urging those holding side discussions to continue them outside or in bilateral meeting rooms.
The Africa Forward Summit has brought together more than 30 African leaders, business executives and young entrepreneurs. The summit comes at a time when Paris is trying to rebuild its influence in Africa following tensions and military withdrawals in several West African countries.
