BOXING – Bahrain’s boxing superstar Jayden Price added yet another major accolade to his already impressive collection after winning gold yesterday in the boys’ light bantamweight division (52kg) at the Asian U17 Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Jayden secured his title after defeating hometown fighter Oybek Alimdjonov on points by a split decision in a hotly contested final.
With the result, Jayden secured a gold medal in the continental event for the second year in a row. He triumphed in the 2025 under-15 competition held in Amman, Jordan, where he competed in the boys’ 43kg category.
“Jayden boxed against a very top-level Uzbekistan champion in the final and got the job done,” said his elated father Lee in a post yesterday on social media.
Lee is with Jayden at the Uzbek capital for the meeting.
“It was without doubt the toughest competition Jayden has ever been involved in,” Lee added.
“Well done, my boy. I couldn’t be prouder.”
With Jayden’s result, Bahrain finished eighth overall on the final under-17 medal standings amongst the 15 nations that appeared on the podium.
Hosts Uzbekistan ranked first with nine gold medals, seven silver, and six bronze for a total of 22.
Kazakhstan followed with eight gold, three silver, and five bronze for 16 total medals, while India were classified third with two gold medals, seven silver, and eight bronze for a haul of 17.
Jayden booked his berth in yesterday’s title contest after winning his three bouts in his weight division’s earlier stages.
He first claimed a unanimous decision victory against Agarzadan Batkhuyag of Mongolia, and then took a split-decision triumph against Nazarov Damir of Tajikistan in the quarter-finals.
Jayden then set up his title clash with Alimdjonov after defeating Bekhan Urazbay of Kazakhstan, also by split decision.
The Asian U17 Boxing Championships was held alongside this year’s under-15 competition.
