Celebrations swept across Brazil after coach Carlo Ancelotti read out the name Neymar Júnior during his 2026 World Cup squad announcement.
Neymar is one of Brazil's most celebrated players, being hugely entertaining and creative on the ball and beloved in Brazil for embodying the football philosophy of Joga Bonito.

He led the Seleção through the 2014 World Cup before a serious back injury in the quarter-final against Colombia brought his tournament to an end.
Neymar's career hasn't seen many highs since he left FC Barcelona in 2017, playing in Paris and then Saudi Arabia before making his way back to his boyhood club Santos, where he has been since 2025.
His selection to the squad was celebrated in the Brazilian streets and notably also by ex-Brazil and Real Madrid legend Marcelo, who posted a video of himself celebrating the inclusion.
