THE Sustainability Forum Middle East (SFME) will convene a high-level roundtable next month to focus on accelerating energy efficiency delivery under Bahrain’s National Energy Strategy.
The session, organised in partnership with Tabreed Bahrain and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), will take place on June 3 at the Wyndham Grand Manama Hotel.
Part of SFME’s Decarbonisation Roundtable Series, the event will bring together senior officials from government entities, multilateral organisations, utilities, developers and financial institutions to examine how Bahrain can speed up the implementation of its energy efficiency goals.
As Bahrain advances its National Energy Strategy and progresses towards its Net Zero 2060 targets, optimising electricity demand and improving energy efficiency have become crucial to strengthening energy security, lowering emissions, and supporting long-term economic resilience. With electricity demand continuing to rise across the kingdom, the discussion will look into how coordinated policy, infrastructure, financing, and operational approaches can drive scalable energy efficiency improvements.
A primary focus of the session will be the role of district cooling and integrated demand-side infrastructure solutions in reducing cooling-related electricity consumption and easing peak demand pressures. Delegates will also explore how Bahrain can effectively balance supply-side investments with scalable demand-side strategies while advancing broader climate commitments.
Tabreed Bahrain country manager Ali AlRumaihi said that as Bahrain advances its sustainability agenda, improving efficiency and optimising demand are becoming vital priorities. He noted that district cooling can play a significant role in reducing energy intensity and supporting system efficiency, adding that the roundtable will contribute to a practical dialogue on scalable implementation pathways.
BCG managing director and partner Giuseppe Bonaccorsi stated that the next chapter of the energy transition will be shaped by how energy is consumed as much as how it is produced.
He emphasised that efficiency is now an energy resilience imperative and that scaling impact will rely on effectively aligning policy, financing and infrastructure planning with existing technologies.
SFME’s Decarbonisation Roundtable Series takes place throughout the year across the region to address topics critical to the Middle East’s net-zero journey. The 2026 edition is backed by a major network of regional organisations, including lead partners BBK, SAFA, and Tabreed Bahrain, alongside strategic partners such as the United Nations Development Programme, Bank ABC, Standard Chartered Bank and Gulf International Bank.
