FOOTBALL – Bahrain’s senior men’s football national team kicked off their latest training gathering last night at the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) pitches in Riffa.
BFA board member and national team supervisor Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa Al Khalifa was in attendance.
Head coach Dragan Talajic welcomed the first group of players from his 30 call-ups.
The nationals are preparing for two major tournaments – the 27th Gulf Cup in September and October, which they are entering as defending champions, and the AFC Asian Cup 2027 slated for January and February next year.
Training got underway without Bahrain’s players who are competing in the ongoing relegation/promotion play-offs for the 2026-27 Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League, as well as their overseas-based professionals.
As part of this training programme, the nationals are scheduled to play two international friendly matches in Europe in their overseas camp early next month.
The Bahrainis will first take on Georgia’s senior men’s national team on June 5 at Mikheil Maski Stadium in Tbilisi, and then face off with Syria’s senior men’s squad on June 9 at Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya, Türkiye.
