A united Gulf was joined by Arab countries yesterday in strongly condemning new Iranian aggression against Bahrain and Kuwait.
While Bahrain’s defence forces thwarted an attack by missile and drone, one civilian was killed and several injured in attacks on Kuwait.
The Iranian attacks were condemned by Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Lebanon and the Muslim Council of Elders.
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi affirmed that the attacks targeting civilian facilities, infrastructure, headquarters and diplomatic missions constitute a dangerous and unprecedented escalation and reflect the Iranian regime’s insistence on pursuing hostile policies that undermine the security, stability and sovereignty of GCC member states.
The continuation of these attacks reveals Iran’s persistence in pursuing hostile policies aimed at undermining regional security, in blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter and international norms, he said in a statement.
He called for a firm international stance to put an end to these dangerous and aggressive practices.
Al Budaiwi underscored that the security of Bahrain and Kuwait is an integral part of the security of the GCC states, and that GCC member states stand united in confronting these attacks.
He affirmed the GCC states’ full support for all measures and actions taken by the two countries to defend their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said the kingdom rejects attacks that undermine the sovereignty of Gulf states and emphasised that such actions constitute a violation of international law and the UN Charter.
The kingdom reiterated its solidarity with Bahrain and Kuwait and extended its condolences to Kuwait and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Condemning the attacks, the UAE foreign ministry affirmed that they constitute a threat to the safety of Bahrain’s critical infrastructure and civilian facilities, according to the Emirates News Agency (Wam).
Kuwait reiterated its categorical rejection of such aggressive actions, stressing the need to halt them immediately and prevent further escalation and tension in the region.
The country reaffirmed full solidarity with Bahrain, expressing its support for all measures taken by the kingdom to safeguard its security, sovereignty, stability and territorial integrity.
The Muslim Council of Elders called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in putting an end to these ongoing attacks.
