In April 1984, the late Amir of Bahrain, HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, conducted a highly-successful state visit to the United Kingdom.
During the tour, the Amir was officially welcomed by the late Queen Elizabeth II and Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, and other members of the British Royal Family.
The late Charles Maclean, then Lord Chamberlain of the Royal Household, played a prominent role in hosting and escorting the Amir during the royal ceremonies.
The visit included staying as a guest at Windsor Castle, where the Amir inspected a Guard of Honour and attended a state banquet.
HH Shaikh Isa and Queen Elizabeth II rode in an open-topped state carriage. And, the Amir later addressed invited guests and dignitaries at a banquet held in his honour at London’s historic Guildhall.
