CYCLING – Bahrain Victorious Development Team rider Valentin Hofer powered to an impressive runner-up finish yesterday in the third and penultimate stage of the 17th Oberosterreich Rundfahrt elite men’s road race in Austria.
Hofer was part of a large group of riders in a bunch sprint to the finish, led by winner and fellow-Austrian Kilian Feurstein of Team Vorarlberg.
Hofer was just pipped at the end of the 156.7-kilometre leg, as he clocked a similar time as Feurstein of three hours 23 minutes and 48 seconds.
Joining them on the podium yesterday was Michael Boros of Kasper crypto4me.
Amongst the other Bahrain Victorious Development Team riders, Pole Jan Michal Jackowiak was 21st at the back end of the lead group, Finn Kasper Borremans came 32nd, Hungarian Balint Feldhoffer was 42nd, Belgian Leander de Gendt was 50th, and Irishman Seth Dunwoody came 82nd amongst the field of more than 130 competitors.
Heading into today’s 169.2km final stage, Borremans is the team’s best-placed member on the race’s general classification in fourth, while Jackowiak follows in 13th.
Hofer is fifth on the points rankings, Dunwoody sixth in the King of the Mountains standings, and Borremans fourth in the best young rider classification.
Bahrain Victorious Development Team are also second on the teams’ rankings, just 12 seconds behind Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team.
