Bahrain’s Ambassador to Belgium and head of the kingdom’s mission to the European Union (EU), Dr Mohammed Ali Bahzad met with the European Union’s Special Representative for the Gulf Luigi Di Maio as part of ongoing preparations for the Third High-Level Forum on Regional Security Co-operation between the GCC and the European Union, scheduled to be held in Brussels on July 13.
During the meeting, Ambassador Bahzad praised the growing bilateral relations between Bahrain and the European Union across a wide range of political, economic, trade and development fields.
He highlighted the steady progress in bilateral co-operation and co-ordination at all levels.
For his part, Mr. Di Maio expressed his appreciation for the strong and expanding ties between the two sides, as well as the high level of co-operation and co-ordination between the European Union and Bahrain in particular, and the GCC member states in general.
He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to further strengthening co-operation and expanding joint co-ordination in support of shared interests.
The two sides also reviewed a number of priority security and strategic issues, foremost among them recent regional security developments following Iran’s attacks on GCC member states, and ways to enhance co-ordination to safeguard freedom of navigation and strengthen maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
The meeting also explored avenues for expanding co-operation between Bahrain and the European Union across various sectors, strengthening GCC-EU relations during Bahrain’s current presidency of the GCC, and discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
