Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has detailed the incident that led to his recent surgery.
His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman fell from his horse while competing in the Summer Spirit Race in Slovakia on Saturday.
Speaking to AAK Equestrian, he said the ground was uneven and he had warned others moments before his fall.
Despite sustaining a fracture, Shaikh Nasser remarkably continued riding for the remaining nine kilometres. After a short while, he lost movement in his arm and realised something was wrong. He pinned his arm and finished the race using only one hand.
Shortly after, he began to feel faint and asked his companions to ride ahead of him. He drifted in and out of consciousness until he crossed the finish line.
Shaikh Nasser posted a photo of himself and reassured well-wishers that he is on the path to full recovery.
