BOWLING – The top three title contenders in this season’s Bahrain Bowling League all claimed clean sweeps in their respective week eight matches, played at Funland Centre’s lanes.
Current leaders and defending champions Riffa battled past a gritty Al Hala 8-0 (2,444-2,308), second-placers Bahrain Club ousted Isa Town 8-0 (2,493-2,070), and third-ranked Um Al Hassam outplayed Al Ittifaq 8-0 (2,352-2,003).
Fawaz Abdulla was in scintillating form for Riffa in their triumph.
They opened the contest with an 802-784 win in the first game, which they followed up with an 831-769 triumph in the second.
Riffa then carried their momentum into the third for an 811-755 victory, helping secure the two bonus points and keep their hold of the top spot on the standings.
Abdulla registered his team’s high series of 698 pins, while JM Villanueva added 642 and Ahmed Algoud had 611.
Abdulaziz Al Shaikh contributed 493 pins for Riffa.
Ayoob Hassan paced Hala with a 646 total, while teammates Mohammed Bahar, Mohammed Al Shetti and Waleed Darraj had solid scores of 561, 555, 546, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bahrain Club blanked Isa Town in their affair.
They opened with a red hot 955-681 game one triumph, but then just eked past Isa Town 753-743 in game two.
They completed their match taking the third game 785-646.
All four of Bahrain Club’s players scored over 600 pins.
Aqeel Alawadhi led them with a 641 series, Ahmed Fareed had 632, Khaled Sameer posted 616, and Abdulla Abdulkarim took down 604 pins.
Shaker Daraj was Isa Town’s leading scorer with a 570 series.
In Um Al Hassam’s match-up against Ittifaq, Talal Al Abdulla powered to the week’s high series of 706 pins to spearhead the winners.
They cruised to a 731-616 result in game one and won game two 771-684. Al Abdulla then took down 259 pins in the third game to inspire Um Al Hassam to an 850-703 win.
Ali Darwish added 579 pins for Um Al Hassam, while Mohammed Aldoseari led Ittifaq with a 587 series.
In the eighth week’s other contest between two middle-of-the-table teams, Sanad and Busaiteen played to a share of the points at 4-4 (2,106-2,103).
Sanad won just the third of the three games, 842-690, but enjoyed enough of a margin to claim the bonus two points with the superior total.
Sayed Moosa was Sanad’s best individual scorer with 583 pins, while Mohammed Al Shawoosh paced Busaiteen with 615.
