A foreign national has been sentenced to six months in prison and permanent deportation after being convicted of using a forged university degree to obtain employment as a teacher.
The Lower Criminal Court issued the ruling following a case brought by the Public Prosecution after an investigation established that the academic qualification submitted by the defendant was fake.
According to the Cybercrime Prosecution deputy head, the case began when the Public Prosecution received a report from the Education Ministry after a forged university degree was discovered during routine verification procedures.
The ministry said that the defendant had submitted the academic certificate to a private school as part of his employment application and that it was also presented to the competent authorities responsible for verifying and accrediting educational qualifications.
The forged document was detected during the ministry’s authentication process, which was carried out through a specialised company respoBnsible for ensuring that academic qualifications meet approved standards and are genuine before they are recognised for employment in the education sector.
Following the report, the Public Prosecution launched an investigation that included questioning witnesses, examining the audit findings and contacting the university whose name appeared on the certificate.
Investigators confirmed that the university had no record of issuing the qualification and formally stated that the certificate was not authentic.
Based on the evidence gathered, the Public Prosecution referred the defendant to the Lower Criminal Court, which found him guilty of using a forged university degree.
The court sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment, ordered the confiscation of the forged certificate and permanent deportation after completing his prison sentence.
The Public Prosecution said the case reflects the importance of rigorous verification procedures for academic qualifications and reaffirmed that it will continue taking legal action against anyone who uses forged documents or attempts to deceive authorities in order to obtain employment or other benefits.
