CYCLING – Bahrain's cycling national team riders Hassan Thamer and Mohammed Hasan Kadhem completed their track cycling training camp in Shuzenji, Japan, with the participation of elite cyclists and teams from around the world.
The pair were accompanied in the camp by Bahraini coach Jassim Mohammed Husain.
It was held at the Union Cycliste Internationale’s (UCI) World Cycling Centre regional development satellite, located about 150 kilometres from Tokyo.
It is the first indoor track in Japan with a length of 250m and specifications approved by the UCI, and it features advanced facilities designed specifically for world-class track cyclists.
On the closing day of the camp, Thamer and Kadhem took part in a 200m sprint race alongside riders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, China, Chinese Taipei, and hosts Japan.
Thamer and Kadhem were also given certificates of participation and praise for their technical performances, while Husain also received a certificate for being a part of the camp.
Bahrain Cycling Association president Dr Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with all officials at the BOC, for providing the opportunity for Bahrain’s cyclists to engage in the camp.
He stressed that the unique initiative will contribute to establishing the first competitive Bahraini team in track cycling.
