FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN’S youth women’s football national team suffered a 1-2 defeat to their counterparts from Palestine yesterday in their opening Group B match of the West Asia Football Federation (WAFF) U17 Women’s Championship 2026, currently being played in Amman, Jordan.
The Bahrainis’ lone goal came in the 80th minute when Palestine captain Selina Ghneim sent the ball into her own net off a corner kick. Ghneim’s error reduced their two-goal cushion in half, but the Bahrainis could not find an equaliser over the remainder of the contest.
The nationals will be looking to bounce back when they return to action tomorrow against hosts Jordan at 6pm, Bahrain time, in their concluding Group B assignment. The seven-team tournament features Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE in Group A.
