As part of its official visit to Thailand, a Bahraini business delegation, headed by Bahrain Chamber Food Sector Committee chairman Khalid Al Amin, held a high-level meeting with Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) director general Sunanta Kangvalkulkij to discuss expanding bilateral trade and enhancing co-operation in food security and halal industries.
The delegation included Bahrain’s Ambassador to Thailand Khalil Yaqoub Al Khayyat, Thai Ambassador to Bahrain Sumate Chulajata, Khalifa Al Rumaihi, Ahmed Hajress, Isa Awachi, UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) Bahrain head Dr Hashim Hussein, Eathai owner Hashem Erhama and Mina Noshy of Access General Trading.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship and long-standing diplomatic and economic relations between Bahrain and Thailand, emphasising their shared commitment to elevating bilateral trade and investment to new levels.
Discussions focused on strengthening co-operation in agricultural commodities, food products, and halal industries, while exploring new opportunities for commercial partnerships between Bahraini and Thai companies. Both sides also highlighted the importance of expanding private sector collaboration to facilitate trade, encourage investment, and support sustainable economic growth.
The meeting underscored Thailand’s prominent position as one of the world’s leading food exporters and its internationally recognised reputation as the ‘Kitchen of the World.’
In this regard, the Bahraini delegation expressed its interest in further strengthening co-operation with Thailand to support Bahrain’s food security strategy through reliable and sustainable food supply chains, increased imports of premium-quality food products, and enhanced collaboration in food manufacturing and halal certification.
Mr Al Amin emphasised Bahrain Chamber’s commitment to strengthening commercial ties with Thailand by creating new opportunities for Bahraini businesses and encouraging partnerships that contribute to the food security objectives of Bahrain.
He noted that the visit reflects the Chamber’s continuous efforts to build strategic relationships with key international partners and to promote Bahrain as a regional gateway for trade and investment.
For her part, Ms Kangvalkulkij welcomed the Bahraini delegation and reaffirmed DITP’s readiness to support greater engagement between the business communities of both countries.
She expressed confidence that closer cooperation would further increase trade volumes and create mutually beneficial investment opportunities.
The meeting forms part of the Bahraini delegation’s official programme in Thailand, which aims to deepen economic co-operation, strengthen institutional partnerships, and further develop the long-standing friendship between Bahrain and Thailand through expanded trade and private-sector collaboration.
As part of the official visit, Mr Al Amin and Mr Al Khayyat, accompanied by Mr Chulajata, paid a courtesy visit to Shaikh Arun Boonchom, Shaikhul Islam and Grand Mufti of Thailand.
During the meeting, the delegation conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Bahrain and discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the further development of the halal ecosystem and the enhancement of co-operation in halal certification, standards, and the exchange of expertise.
The discussions also focused on expanding collaboration in ways that support bilateral trade and meet the growing global demand for halal products.
Both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening co-operation between the relevant halal authorities and institutions in Bahrain and Thailand and building on Thailand’s internationally recognised expertise in the halal sector.
They noted that closer collaboration would create new economic opportunities while supporting Bahrain’s efforts to further establish itself as a regional hub for the trade and distribution of halal products.
