HORSERACING – LOUGHREA won the 0-90 Dublin to Bahrain Handicap last night at Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin, Ireland.
The event was the opening leg of this year’s Dublin to Bahrain Race Series, and it was a one-mile ride open to three-year-olds and older, with close to 15,000 Euros going to the winner.
Loughrea triumphed for owner Mrs C Holohan and trainer Andrew Slattery, whose son Andrew Joseph Slattery was the jockey who saddled the four-year-old bay gelding.
They started the race behind the early leaders before powering to the front a furling out. Loughrea then held on to first place until the finish to win by a half-length from runner-up Aviatrice, racing for N Mollay, David Marnane, and Luke McAteer.
How’sthebai came third for Sean Jones, GM Lyons, and Colin Keane from the six-runner field.
Quatre Bras finished fourth for trainer Richard John, Tachos was fifth for DK Weld, and Exquisite Acclaim was sixth for trainer Adrian McGuinness.
The Dublin to Bahrain Race Series is in its fourth edition this year, and it features multiple events at Leopardstown contested by top-class horses from around the world.
