A video of Spain’s Marc Cucurella carrying the World Cup trophy in a plastic bag has gone viral online, sparking humorous reactions from fans. Following La Roja’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the World Cup final, the defender was spotted leaving MetLife Stadium with football's most coveted prize slung inside a carrier bag.
Social media users quickly seized on the sight, with many joking about the champion carrying the trophy as if it were a bag of groceries. Others playfully remarked that Spain had literally "bagged" the title.
Contrary to popular belief, World Cup winners do not take home the original 18-carat gold trophy, which remains at FIFA’s headquarters in Switzerland. Instead, the team receives an official gold-plated bronze replica, which was presented to the Spanish squad by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the dressing room after the match.
