Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) launched its annual Onam celebrations yesterday.
Sravanam 2026 commenced with an Onam ‘flag’ hoisting ceremony in the Diamond Jubilee Hall at the organisation’s premises in Segaya.
Onam is Kerala’s harvest festival, marking the legendary homecoming of King Mahabali and symbolises prosperity, unity and happiness.
The programme featured a vibrant Pandi Melam, a traditional Kerala percussion ensemble, by Sopanam Vadya Kala Sangham, followed by a group song presented by the BKS music club.
“Through Sravanam 2026, we want to send a message of hope and confidence that difficult times too shall pass,” BKS president P V Radhakrishna Pillai said, highlighting the regional tensions.
The event will run throughout August and September, showcasing Indian artists, competitions and more.
