Two security screeners were injured on Sunday morning at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport after a licensed firearm discharged during a security check.
The passenger, travelling to Mumbai on flight IX-1810, had already declared his licensed pistol prior to the check.
During verification, the passenger allegedly pulled the trigger while trying to demonstrate that the weapon was unloaded, discharging a round.
The bullet ricocheted off the floor, striking screening staff members Rohit Raj on the thumb and Suman Kumari on the leg. Both were rushed to a local trauma centre for treatment.
