The Industry and Commerce Ministry has launched a streamlined electronic service for registering national trademarks or service marks in a single category, as part of broader government efforts to re-engineer public services.
The upgraded service allows applicants to submit protection requests for single-category marks under the ‘Nice Classification’, covering both visible marks – such as words and logos – and invisible marks, including sound and olfactory identifiers.
The overhaul has significantly reduced processing times from the preliminary legal and technical review stage through to final approval. It has also simplified requirements by cutting down on necessary documentation, reducing required approvals, and unifying service standards across all channels. Additionally, application forms have been fully digitised and paired with an enhanced user interface to create a smoother client experience.
Industry and Commerce Ministry under-secretary Eman Al Doseri stated that the development reflects the ministry’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, clarifying procedures, and saving time and effort for beneficiaries.
The initiative forms part of a wider government campaign that has documented over 1,300 services and re-engineered more than 800 across various sectors. These improvements are driven by public feedback through the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul), investor input, and mystery shopper reports to support digital transformation and elevate service quality.
