More than 1,200 Indian community members came together for the children’s Onam celebration ‘Pilleronam’ organised over the weekend by the Bahrain Kerala Samajam (BKS) as part of its Onam celebrations
The event provided a platform for children to showcase their artistic talents.
The programme took place on Friday, beginning with a Panchari Melam performance by the children of Sopanam Vadyakala Sangham.
The event was officially inaugurated by BKS acting president Ravi Kumar, who lit the ceremonial lamp.
Shravanam ’26 organising committee member Rajeev Mathew welcomed attendees with his speech, while Pilleronam convenor Bonny Jose delivered the vote of thanks.
The evening featured a grand cultural programme put on by more than 200 children, who presented Onam songs, skits, dance performances and more. Various competitions, including traditional costumes and games, were also conducted for children and parents.
The night concluded with an feast for the pre-registered participants.
Pilleronam kicked off the Shravanam 2026 Onam celebrations for BKS, which will continue today with a special musical tribute to legendary playback singers SP Balasubrahmanyam and S Janaki, followed by cultural Thiruvonam celebrations tomorrow evening,
featuring traditional Onam games, dances, songs and more.
On Thursday, the BKS Literary wing will present ‘Sithar Night’, as well as a mimicry parade, and on Friday morning, a Kabaddi tournament featuring prominent teams from Bahrain will take place, followed by a traditional Panja Gusthi (arm wrestling) competition on Saturday evening.
