In an exceptional medical feat, a hospital in southern Egypt delivered twin babies after their deceased mother was brought to the facility.
Emergency doctors at Saqulta Central Hospital in Sohag attempted to resuscitate the 26-year-old pregnant woman, who was brought to the hospital 20 minutes after her death.
An ultrasound examination revealed a weak pulse in each of the twin babies, prompting doctors to rush into surgery. The intensive care, paediatric, and obstetric teams successfully extracted the twins in about 10 minutes and resuscitated them immediately.
The twins have since been transferred to the hospital nursery for further medical care and monitoring.
Officials and specialists lauded the medical and nursing team's speed of response and expertise, which saved the lives of two children in a complex medical situation.
