BAHRAIN’S senior men’s cycling national team will be taking part in a pair of elite men’s international road races in Oman today and in the coming week. Five of the kingdom’s top riders will be competing today in the second edition of the Dhofar Classic, and then will be back in action tomorrow until Wednesday in the four-stage Tour of Salalah.
The kingdom’s squad features talented riders Sayed Ahmed Khalil, Mohammed Alghais, Hussain Mohammed, Mahdi Hassan, and Ahmed Madan. They are being accompanied in Oman by national team technical director Axel Costa and cycling technician Issa Ayoub.
The Bahrainis are competing in the two major events, which are a part of this year’s Union Cycliste Internationale’s (UCI) Asia Tour, with the backing of the General Sports Authority and the Bahrain Olympic Committee. Today’s Dhofar Classic is set to feature a distance of 98km, while the Tour of Salalah will be held across a total distance of 496km.
