GDN Media Conversation: What is the hardest part of the back-to-school routine and how you deal with it?
One of the biggest struggles is getting used to waking up early. It can be hard to get out of bed when we are still tired. We also have to attend classes, listen to teachers, study for tests, and finish our homework. Sometimes, we may feel stressed because there is a lot of work to do.
Another struggle is getting used to school again. We may miss the freedom of the holiday and wish we could have more free time. However, school is important because it helps us learn new things and prepare for our future.
Although going back to school can be challenging, we can make it easier by planning our time, sleeping early, and staying positive. After a few days, we usually get used to the routine again. Going back to school may be hard at first, but it can also be a fresh start and a chance to learn and make new memories.

I believe the first few days are like the beginning of new journey. With a positive attitude, good planning, enough sleep and a little determination, we can turn our routine into a habit. Going back to school may be hard at first, but every new routine is a new opportunity to learn, grow, make friends and become a better version of ourselves. So I don’t fear the routine, I welcome it because every new school day is a new chance to shine

Definitely early mornings! Getting everyone awake and ready after long summer nights is always the biggest battle. How I deal with it? Preparation is key! I lay out all uniforms, pack the bags and prepare breakfast the night before. Setting staggered alarms also helps us avoid morning rush and stress!

Bedtime, without a doubt. Trying to convince kids to go to sleep is like negotiating a hostage situation. ‘Just one more glass of water’, ‘I need to tell the cat goodnight’ or ‘my left big toe feels weird’. I deal with it by putting on a documentary – it works on them, but unfortunately, it puts me to sleep first!

Early mornings! Waking up my child feels like a full-time job before my actual job even starts! I prepare everything the night before and still somehow end up shouting ‘hurry up’ at least 10 times. Honestly, getting everyone out of the door on time deserves an Olympic medal… preferably one for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Yelling Hurry Up!’

Early mornings – definitely the hardest! For many families, early mornings are the biggest back-to-school challenge because the entire household has to adjust from a relaxed holiday schedule to a strict school routine. Children may struggle to wake up early, get dressed, have breakfast, prepare their bags, and leave on time. At the same time, parents are trying to get themselves ready, prepare breakfast, organise lunches, and make sure nothing is forgotten.
The biggest problem is that one small delay can affect the whole morning. If a child sleeps for another 10 minutes, cannot find their shoes, or suddenly remembers unfinished homework, the entire schedule can become stressful.

Honestly, my grade two daughter loves school so much that she’s always super excited to go! Our only real struggle is bedtime. She gets too hyped up talking about the next day to actually sleep. We just try to wind down early with a book to calm her down.

The hardest part is adjusting back to an early busy routine. I deal with it by preparing the night before and staying organised.

The hardest thing for me are the mornings, because I have to get up early and prepare quickly, and on top of that the streets are very crowded and I’m going to school. Sometimes I’m so sleepy that I don’t have the energy to get up, so I prepare everything the night before to make sure I’m not late.
